Dan Wetzel

Bio

Dan came to faith as a teenager and responded to God’s call to ministry during his first year in forestry school at Penn State University. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Nyack Missionary College and a master’s degree from Alliance Theological Seminary, Dan and his wife, Iris, dedicated many years to serving Native American communities in Minnesota and the Dakotas. He later became a pastor in Montana and Wyoming before serving as district superintendent of the Southwestern District of The Christian and Missionary Alliance. In 2006, he was appointed assistant vice president for Church Ministries in the denomination, eventually becoming the vice president.

Dan and Iris reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they enjoy spending time with five of their seven grandchildren. They are celebrating their fifty-sixth wedding anniversary in 2025. Dan’s hobbies include reading, nature photography, history, hiking, camping, and horses. Fly-fishing and hunting provide seasonal recreation as well.

Areas of specialty

Dan’s dedication to the welfare of the local church has never wavered. It is his passion to see congregations grounded in the gospel, equipping believers, and ministering to the community around them. He has a broad range of cross-cultural experience which lends perspective to the ministry challenges in diverse contexts. Dan is currently licensed as a transitional pastor in the MidAmerica District of The Alliance.

Experience

Dan Wetzel has over fifty-six years of productive ministry experience, serving as a pastor, church-planter, administrator, mentor, and ministry coach. He is certified as a church health consultant specializing in church revitalization. In the past six years, he has successfully served as an interim pastor for four congregations experiencing difficult transitions in pastoral leadership. Dan has ministered in both urban and rural settings.
